NYIPT 3 Year Training Program
THE NEW YORK INSTITUTE
FOR PSYCHOTHERAPY TRAINING in Infancy, Childhood and Adolescence
(NYIPT), provides low-cost training and supervision in
psychodynamic psychotherapy and play therapy for mental health
workers who are interested in working with infants, children,
adolescents and their parents. Our three-year training program
has a core curriculum that integrates contemporary
psychoanalytic theory and research with clinical technique.
Candidates gain an in-depth understanding
of infants, children and adolescents in the context of their
families and culture.
Our educational programs include
seminars, workshops, clinical consultation, and clinical
placements for all candidates at various community mental health
centers and schools throughout New York City.
Candidates conduct a minimum of
five child/patient sessions and one weekly parent collateral
totaling six weekly clinic field-placement hours with children
and their parents.
Income derived from clinical work
can be used to offset the cost of tuition.
NYIPT proudly
maintains a faculty of 35 teachers, clinical consultants and
administrative staff.
All NYIPT faculty and clinical
consultants are senior clinicians with considerable experience
teaching and consulting.
A number of the NYIPT faculty were
formerly associated with the New Hope Guild
Child and Adolescent Therapy
Training Program.
Many also teach and/or supervise
at other training institutes such as IPTAR, NPAP, NIP and The
Freudian Society.
NYIPT is an institute
without walls.
Its main office is located at 3701
Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, New York; however, all courses and
supervision are conducted in the offices of faculty and clinical
consultants throughout Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn.
The NYIPT Program has been issued
a provisional charter which is renewed every five years by the
New York State Department of Education, Board of Regents.
