Admission


The NYIPT program welcomes candidates from mental health professions who are interested in becoming trained child therapists.  The program does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability or national or ethnic background. 

The program is open to all qualified mental health professionals licensed (or license-eligible) in these areas:

  • Creative Arts Therapies (Master’s level)
  • Psychiatric Nursing
  • Psychiatry
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Mental Health Counseling

To apply for admission, the following documents must be submitted in our Application (fill-in enabled Word doc, or Adobe PDF) including:

  • Personal Statement

  • Three letters of recommendation (At least one academic and one supervisory)

  • Copy of transcript from University Graduate School and/or New York State License

  • Personal Resume

  • Candidate’s Psychotherapist Evaluation Form (fill-in enabled Word doc, or Adobe PDF)  (if applicable)

  • $25 nonrefundable processing fee

Applications are evaluated on a rolling admissions basis through the month of August to begin a new semester in September.  Early application is encouraged.  Applications are screened by our Executive Committee and applicants may be interviewed by administration and faculty. Once accepted into the program, candidates and administration both sign a Letter of Agreement (fill-in enabled Word doc, or Adobe PDF) and a $150 deposit is given to hold the candidate’s place in the new class. Classes begin each academic year on the first Tuesday in September, on the day after Labor Day.
