In Memory of Jeanette Levitt   Jeanette Levitt was an elegant woman of both personal and professional stature.   While working at a community mental health center inn Brooklyn back in 1972, she became aware that many children were in need of service, and that the staff of licensed therapists had no formal training in working with children. Jeanette began to offer consultation groups and seminars run by the most experienced child clinicians.  From that she developed her ideas into a three-year child therapy training program, the model of our current NYIPT. Jeanette directed that program for almost two decades, and many of the faculty and supervisors at NYIPT are graduates of Jeanette's original training program!   In the spirit of Jeanette Levitt, NYIPT was born, as a program that seeks to improve the mental health of children while continuing to provide opportunities for professional growth for therapists who pursue formal training to work with children.   Jeanette's legacy lives on in all of us as we carry out the mission of NYIPT.  We honor her memory and are forever grateful to the leadership that she provided.  Her high educational standards continue on.  In that spirit we are giving back much of what we got.  Jeanette has been an inspiration to all of us at NYIPT and forever will be our role model.   Jeanette's original supervisory group (all NYIPT administrators and faculty) met with her for lunch in July, 2008.
