Meet the faculty, the students, and the graduates at our Open House, May 14, 2008

Program Description

NYIPT provides low-cost training and supervision in psychodynamic psychotherapy for mental health workers who are interested in working with infants, children, adolescents and their parents. Our three-year training program has a core curriculum that integrates contemporary psychoanalytic theory and research with clinical technique.

Candidates gain an in-depth understanding of infants, children and adolescents in the context of their families and culture. Our educational programs include seminars, workshops, supervision, and clinical placements for all candidates at various community mental health centers throughout New York City. Candidates work six weekly clinic field-placement hours with children and their parents. This income can be used to offset tuition.

NYIPT faculty and supervisors, many of whom were formerly associated with the New Hope Guild Child and Adolescent Therapy Training Program, are senior clinicians with considerable experience teaching and supervising. The main office of NYIPT is located at 3701 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, however, all courses and supervision are conducted in the offices of faculty and supervisors throughout Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn.

A certificate is awarded upon completion of the three-year training program which includes all course work, supervision, clinical hours and personal therapy. The Certificate will be awarded at a graduation ceremony at the end of the fall semester, when all requirements for graduation have been met.  Certificates may be withheld until all requirements are completed.

NYIPT has been issued a provisional charter which is renewed every five years by the New York State Department of Education Board of Regents.

The NYIPT Program welcomes candidates from various mental health professions who are interested in becoming trained child therapists. The program does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability or national or ethnic background.
